The Lead Software Security Architect plays a critical role in safeguarding Hyland's products and services by ensuring secure design, rigorous testing, and proactive vulnerability management. In this role, you will work closely with engineering teams to promote secure coding practices, identify potential risks, and drive a company-wide culture of security. Your Role Responsibilities — Here's What You'll Do
- Provide clear guidance and mentorship to software and test engineers on secure software development practices and identifying insecure code; leverage data to regularly monitor the effectiveness of these practices and update them as needed.
- Drive the use of threat modeling for products in scope — reviewing threat models, providing guidance on appropriate tools and techniques, and creating or contributing to system-level threat models.
- Review determinations of security findings, serving as the primary approver for "Not Exploitable" determinations for Critical and High severity findings, and monitor vulnerability remediation status for adherence to company-specified SLAs.
- Provide guidance on Risk Acceptance requests for vulnerabilities not remediated within target SLAs, and regularly review and validate the effectiveness of security verification tools to ensure consistent application.
- Serve as the primary contact for security-related questions for assigned products, coordinating with SMEs as needed and operating as a trusted advisor on security issues and trends.
- Mentor, coach, and provide feedback to team members; foster and participate in a community of security best practices within the company, promoting a culture of security while working across time zones with US, India, and EU-based teams.
Role Essentials — What You Bring
- Significant experience in software security architecture with deep expertise in secure software development practices, threat modeling, and vulnerability management.
- Proven ability to review and determine the exploitability of security findings, including Critical and High severity vulnerabilities, and provide sound guidance on risk acceptance decisions.
- Strong mentorship and coaching skills with the ability to guide software and test engineers on secure coding practices and identify insecure code patterns effectively.
- Experience validating and optimizing security verification tools, ensuring consistent application across assigned product portfolios.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across time zones with US, India, and EU-based teams.
What We'd Like to See — Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with industry-standard threat modeling frameworks and tools such as STRIDE, MITRE ATT&CK, or OWASP Threat Dragon.
- Familiarity with security compliance frameworks and standards relevant to enterprise software environments (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST).
- Experience fostering a culture of security within large engineering organizations through community building, knowledge sharing, and continuous education initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data to monitor the effectiveness of security practices and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
- Experience managing vulnerability remediation programs, including SLA adherence and risk acceptance governance across complex, multi-product portfolios.
