Job Description

 

The Manager Software Engineering is responsible for developing and leading technical teams in the delivery of quality products in a timely manner. This position collaborates with other technical leaders to ensure a cohesive product suite.

 

This specific position will be responsible for leading the Hyland for Guidewire engineering team.  The team is a geographically diverse team of Engineers and a Test Engineer.  The team is in the transition towards the product operating model and this Engineering Manager position will serve as part of the leadership triad along with a Designer and already established Product Manager.

 

Currently we are hiring for Hyderabad location only. The position will be Hybrid in nature . This is not a Remote opportunity.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the delivery of timely high quality outcomes. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to meet business requirements through helping the team align with the product strategy and ultimately responsible for achieving product outcomes.  Collaboration with fellow Empowered Team leadership triad to conduct Discovery sessions with customers, both internal and external.
  • Ensure alignment with product vision through collaboration and frequent communication with technical leadership and product manager. Establish team organization in support of product direction.
  • Lead a team to understand, adhere to, and consistently implement the software development lifecycle. Proactively identify and communicate potential roadblocks to the team and leadership.
  • Provide technical guidance, hands-on assistance, and promote team culture with an emphasis on security, quality, and engineering agility; remove barriers to enable the team to be productive.
  • Execute department processes and standards to ensure alignment across the organization. Continuously improve processes through effective communication and acting as a motivator of change within the department.
  • Contribute to and manage to approved budget.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross departmental stakeholders in creation, coordination, and achievement of mutual goals.
  • Manage and lead the direction of executing department benchmarks, protocols, and objectives. Assess employee and team performance against established quality metrics; track team performance against established metrics and hold direct reports accountable for meeting defined performance standards; provide feedback to employees.
  • Perform all managerial functions and responsibilities associated with hiring, compensation management, employment relations, and termination of employees
  • Develop team members; coach employees through their personal growth in functional expertise, communication skills, and ability to effectively interact with clients and peers. Assist with identifying and developing future leaders.
  • Operate as a thought leader among the team; contribute significantly to the overall growth and quality of the department.
  • Serve as an escalation point for issues; provide guidance, resolve issues as necessary, and remove obstacles for team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant software industry experience.  Experience with Guidewire or experience in the Insurance industry is a plus. 
  • Demonstrated technical skills to effectively manage technical teams.
  • Experience with the Product Operating Model, Agile practices, or a willingness to learn and execute in the Product Operating Model or other appropriate principles and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility/accountability in managing budgets.
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, applied successfully within a team as well as other areas.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with CI/CD principles. 
  • On call/after hours escalation may be required. 
  • Up to 5% travel time required.
