Backend Engineering Manager

📍 Location: Hyderabad 🏢 Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office

About the Role

We're looking for a Backend Engineering Manager to lead a team building scalable, reliable, and secure backend services. You'll bring together strong people leadership and hands-on technical insight, working closely with Product and Architecture to deliver meaningful solutions. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys coaching engineers, shaping backend architecture, and balancing technical depth with delivery and collaboration.

Your Role Responsibilities? Here's What You'll Do.

• Lead a backend engineering team delivering high-quality services on time, tracking delivery and quality metrics while proactively addressing risks and blockers.
• Partner with Product Owners and Architects to shape technical direction, define user stories, and drive impactful shared outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership across Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST APIs — guiding the team on backend design, scalability, performance, and security best practices.
• Hire, mentor, and develop engineers, supporting performance management and long-term career growth.
• Champion Agile ways of working and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the team.
• Serve as an escalation point and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth, consistent execution.

Role Essentials

• Proven experience leading backend or platform engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on background in Java, Spring/Spring Boot, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Deep proficiency in REST APIs and backend architecture design.
• Experience working in Agile environments with a solid understanding of CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
• Demonstrated people-management and coaching skills, with strong communication and collaboration abilities.

• Comfort working with metrics, data, and operational dashboards.
• Track record of partnering closely with product and architecture teams.
