Job Description

  • The Director R&D is responsible for the program level strategy and delivery of quality products in a timely manner. Collaborates with R&D leaders to ensure a cohesive product suite. Works with stakeholders across the company to represent the program and meet customer needs.

What you will be doing

  • Set the program vision and strategy by working collaboratively with product management, agility enablement, and technical leaders.
  • Provide direction and leadership to R&D managers/senior managers to ensure product teams meet priorities. Ensure product teams are executing towards the architectural vision, completing product backlog, and delivering quality products in a timely manner.
  • Manage and direct all aspects of performance and compensation management. Provide frequent performance and developmental feedback. Recruit and retain employees.
  • Anticipate, budget, and plan for needs. Lead managers to establish and maintain staffing levels, training plans, cross training initiatives, performance requirements and equipment needs.
  • Set product vision with technical leadership and product management; ensure teams are aligned with architectural vision. Work collaboratively across the organization, demonstrating and fostering teamwork, to achieve objectives.
  • Participate in the establishment of department processes and standards to ensure alignment across the R&D organization. Ensure accountability and consistency on team performance, metrics, etc. Continuously improve processes within program; influence departmental and company process improvements.
  • Work closely with product management to set the program direction and influence the planning process based on corporate strategies and business plans. Communicate project updates and accomplishments to R&D executives.
  • Conduct workshops, seminars, and training events for employees, customers, and partners. Facilitate technical discussions and training with technical experts and stakeholders.
  • Operate as an innovative thought leader within the company. Contribute significantly to the overall growth and knowledge base of the department. Make recommendations for best practices. Accommodate and champion change efforts.
  • Maintain awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, and new industry developments and standards.
  • Oversee the establishment and monitoring of key metrics and reporting; inform executives on a regular basis.

What will make you successful

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in software development, quality assurance, or related technical work.
  • Demonstrated success as an effective leader, especially of technical teams. Experience with Agile, or willingness to learn and follow Agile, Scrum, or other appropriate principles and methodologies.
  • Experience leading and influencing coworkers, customers, partners, and executives from diverse academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Ability to effectively present technical material and influence others.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Experience in demonstrating focus to lead large numbers of team to complete their highest priority work.
  • Commitment to evangelize company and industry best practices through participation in professional associations, customer/partner meetings, or mentoring activities.
  • Successful at facilitating a collaborative team environment and leading consensus within a team.
  • Ability to provide exceptional follow through, collaboration, and influence.
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility/accountability in managing expenses and budgets.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the principal duties.
